Saturday, July 14 2007, 07:30 - 17:00

WHAT: CDBA Fremont Sprints
WHEN: Saturday, July 14, 2007, 7:30 AM
WHERE: Quarry Lakes, Fremont, CA

RACE FEE:
$25
Payable by check or PayPal ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )
Checks in person or mailed to 931 Lurline Drive, Foster City, 94404
If you have not paid by July 7, you will be dropped from the roster for the race.

The CDBA sprints are held in conjunction with NCOCA outrigger sprint races. The race course is 250 meters. This is a great local race to enjoy the hot California sunshine, cheer on BAD as it goes all out on the water, and cheer on some of our BAD teammates who also will be sprinting outrigger.

Important notes:

  • Please arrive by 7:30 am and, if you have not done so, hand in your two race waivers immediately (http://www.cdba.org/documents/cdba_waiver.pdf AND http://ncoca.com/forms/waiver2006.pdf). Give it to Alvin, Emmie, Andy, or Steve. We must have all waivers and team manifests complete before we can race. Registration closes at 8:00 am. If we do not have your waiver, you cannot race.
  • You will receive a wristband for the race that means you have signed a waiver. If you do not get one, talk to Alvin, Emmie, Andy, or Steve.
  • Stay close to base camp in the morning until the racing is under way and you know your race times. It is important that everyone be on the same page at the start of the race.
  • This is a combined outrigger and dragon boat sprint race. The race course will alternate between dragon boat and outrigger races.
  • This is typically a high wind race course. Be prepared to use the dry start if we have a strong tailwind at the start line and the starter is not too picky.

Race site and parking:

Base Camp:

  • Tent location: Tent location is not decided ahead of time at this race, so look for the BAD banners and flags to find our base camp.
  • Thanks to Martin, Wanda, Sandra, Felicia, and a whole bunch of other people for preparing our base camp. We will have water, gatorade, and other snacks available throughout the race.
  • If you are staying for the BBQ:  $10/person for food all day.
  • If you are NOT staying for the BBQ:  $5/person for food all day.
  • Thanks to Stan, our resident BBQ grill master, and Justin for organizing sandwich pickup.

Race grid:
Not available yet.

Drummer/steerspeople/captains:
Will post later.

What to bring:
For those of you new to BAD, here are some suggested things to bring:

  • towel
  • sunglasses and sunblock
  • change of clothes
  • water bottle
  • camera
  • any snacks you like

What to expect on race day:

For those of you new to BAD and dragon boat racing, here is what you can expect on race day:

  • Each crew has a few spares. However, you can expect to only be spared out once.
  • All lineups will be posted for viewing.
  • A whiteboard will show upcoming race times and heat numbers for each crew.
  • All team captains will call lineups 30 minutes prior to each race.
  • We will do a warmup and stretch prior to each race.
  • After everyone has gathered their gear, the captains will brief each crew. After the briefing, the crew will head together down to the marshalling area for boat loading.
  • Once you load onto the boat, please settle into your seat immediately. Listen carefully for drummer and steersperson commands. After entering the boat, no one talks except for the drummer, steersperson, or captain.
  • Listen carefully at the start line for commands. In windy conditions, this is very important as we may need to maneuver at the start line.
  • After the race has completed, again, please listen for drummer and steersperson commands. The steeresperson will guide the boat back to the loading dock.
  • After exiting the boat, stay close to your crew. We will debrief immediately following each race.
  • Have fun!
